Monument 14 by Emmy Laybourne
Monument 14 is a book full of twists and turns. Emmy Laybourne starts us off with Dean, the main character, trying to get to the school bus on time, Dean soon finds himself trapped in a superstore with kids of all different ages trying to stay alive.
One thing that really added to the story are that the side effects from the compounds acted on the type of blood the character had. Dean has O blood which makes him very aggressive when exposed to the compounds in the air.
Some things that were unrealistic are that one of the secondary characters would notice something and then an event would happen right after that character noticed it. The target audience for Monument 14 is more for teenagers because of some parts that are inappropriate for younger readers.
Laybourne tied everything together with how different the characters are from one another. With the toughness of how the survival situations become and how they jump from one problem to the next is baffling on how these fourteen kids can do it. The fast pace plot will have science fiction fans wanting more.
