True To The Game by Terri Woods
True to the Game made me realized that life is like a game. You have to handle your business, and always watch your back. This is a story of a young girl who lives in the projects. She soon meets a guy named Quadir in the middle of Harlem. I recommend this book because it's eye-opening to those who are in a gang relationship or just likes to read about drugs, violence, sex. If you already read The Dopeman's wife is relatable to True to the Game.
Gena is a nineteen year old girl who is very gorgeous and streetwise. Gena has learned that always having money is the most important thing to have in life because that was the only way she can make it out of the projects. Gena has learned at a young age how to get things she needs and wants in order for her to look good. Although she did not work, she somehow always weared nice expensive brands, through all the guys she's dated. She also loved to party and loved being with her best friend Shariah.
When Gena meets Quadir, a drug lord. She immediately is attracted of his wealth and the fact that he owns the street of philly. Gena and Quadier is like Adam and Eve, just streetwise. Gena and Quadir began to fall in love. Soon when he realized he had so much money and became a millionaire. He decides to leave all of the drug business behind because he wanted to propose to Gena and wanted to start a life with her. He knew continuing what he does was not safe for Gena.
From reading True To The Game a urban fiction, the main issue in this book is gang violence, gang relationships, and drugs. Gena would date guys for money because she didn't work. Until she met Quadir she at first was attracted with the money he made but she ended up falling in love. As Gena and Quadir try to start a life together, soon it becomes tragedy for Gena.
