An Abundance of Katherines by John Green
An Abundance of Katherines is one of the best books I have picked up. It is definitely a page turner and it teaches you that you just need to matter to yourself. It pushes you to believe in yourself. The main character, Colin Singleton, was developed wonderfully as we travel on a journey with him. The novel shows how a former child prodigy turns things around and creates something new for himself.
Child prodigy, Colin Singleton, just got dumped by another Katherine. She was the 19th Katherine he has dated. He is heartbroken and his funny best friend, Hassan, takes him on a road trip from Chicago to Gutshot, Tennessee. Colin keeps thinking he doesn't matter to the world, since he just graduated high school and is loosing his child prodigy title. When they finally get to Gutshot, they meet a girl named Lindsey Lee Wells. Colin and Hassan end up staying with Lindsey and her mother, Hollis. They grow to love the town and Hollis gives them a job. Colin decides to create a theorem that predicts the future of relationships. He believes that the theorem will make him matter. He faces troubles doing so and this little road trip certainly changes him and Hassan.
I absolutely loved this book. It was exciting and I got close to the characters. I am a sucker for surprise endings and this book gave me that. It kept me interested at all times and I was always wondering what was going to happen to Colin in the end. The ending was very well thought out because it was unexpected.
An Abundance of Katherines was overall amazing. It shows how to make the best of things. Also, the book showed suspense that lead to a great surprise. I would recommend this book to anyone. The book always had me guessing and the plot is intriguing. All of John Green's books seem to draw me in from the start.
