The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by sherman alexie
In The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, Arnold who is the main character, is a funny yet strange young teen who has you laughing and crying at the same time. For example he shows you how humorous he really is when he says “I wish I were magical, but I am really just a poor-ass reservation kid living with his poor-ass family on the poor-ass Spokane Indian Reservation”
I, however; am not a big reader and never have read a full book before, until this one. I could not put this book down ! One thing I loved about this book was that Arnold was always persistent with whatever he wanted , and never gave up. ”I knew he’d jump about two feet higher than I could. So I needed to jump quicker.”
There are many themes in this book including; racism, poverty, friendship and death. But the two that stuck out to me was racism and death, “I’m fourteen years old and I’ve been to fourty-two funerals.” ,because I could not believe how poorly the Native Americans were treated in the past, and how many deaths went on at the reservation, and how many funerals Arnold had attended in his life. “We Indians really should be better liars, considering how often we’ve been lied to.”
This book is definitely worth the read! I highly suggest if you're a mature, but humorous person with a heart. You will like this book!
