The Lovely Bones by Sara Gruen
The Lovely Bones by Sara Gruen, was published in 2007. This book is about a young fourteen year old girl who is murdered and her family is trying to find their daughters killer. Susie's dad, Jack, is convinced that their neighbor, Mr.Harvey, did this crime; Although, with no evidence they can't arrest him. Sadly, Susie's killer is never found and he eventually kills himself because of all the guilt. Furthermore, the main characters in the book were Susie and Jack Salmon. Susie is a teen and the ghost of the story. Susie loved to take photographs. After she is beaten, raped and murdered, Susie tells her story from the after world. Moreover, Jack Salmon is another main character. Jack is a loving and caring dad. He knows the truth of what had happened the night his daughter was murdered, but he just can't prove it. He also believes that Susie is trying to communicate with him, and he listens. In addition, my favorite character of all from The Lovely Bones was Jack. Jack seemed like a loving and caring father that would go through anything to help his daughter in need. He is the hero and it shows how much he believes in himself and in his family.
I could relate to the character Jack Salmon from The Lovely Bones for many reasons. For instance, Jack is caring, loving and a thoughtful father. Furthermore, in the book Jack helped his family through a time of need; he loved his family and would have done anything for them. Just like Jack, I would do anything and everything for my family because I love them. My family means a lot to me just as much as Jack's family ment to him. In addition, I have never felt the same emotions as the characters did in the book. These characters have experienced grief, anger, pain, acceptance and remorse. Even though, I have never felt the pain and the grief that the characters have went through, I would never want too.
In my opinion, I loved this book. I thought it was extremely emotional; however, because it was the point of view from a dead girl, made it interesting. In addition, this book makes you value your family a lot. Furthermore, my favorite part of the book was when Lindsey sneaked inside of Mr.Harvey's home looking for evidence. Then Mr.Harvey comes home and eats, but her then sees Lindsey and starts running after her; however, Lindsey escapes safely. This was my favorite part because it made me sit on the edge of my seat throughout this scene. Lastly, my least favorite part was when Susie was murdered because it is always sad seeing a family lose a child.
In conclusion, I would definitely recommend this book to anyone that likes a mysterious but also sad book. When I started reading this book I got goose bumps reading some of the parts.
