You said it was over
You said it was over
That we could still be friends
You were my perfect lover
And I didn’t want it to end
You said it had ended
That you loved me no more
Then smiled and gently kissed me
And walked out the door
You told me that you loved me
In a very special way
But I don’t like this new love
That pushes me away
You told me that you’d see me
Now and then on the street
And wasn’t this a good idea
A better way to meet
I told you that I agreed
But the ice was in my heart
How could I love without you
How could we be apart
I told you I’d been thinking
Along the self same lines
But I never saw it coming
I never saw the signs
And now another years gone by
And I don’t see you at all
Do you ever think of me
Will you give me a call
And the funny thing about this
As the years slip slowly by
Is I never quite recovered
From my first big lie.
I always loved you.
