Highschool
I've always felt different
When I was younger, i hated that
I longed for belonging
But now, as i walk through these halls
Filled with familiar faces
I notice things i've never noticed before
The way hateful, cold stares are cast in every direction
The way everyone so desperately wants to be accepted
The way people treat each other
Suddenly, I don't want to belong here
This is how I know i've grown
Not physically, but mentally, emotionally
I've realized I love people, and i generally want to talk to new people
But i've also realized I hate people
Not for what they look like, or what they're wearing, or who they're dating
But for how they treat other people, how they put others down, how they make you feel like it's not okay to be different
How many victims will we lose to this society, before we realize, we are society, and it's not going to change unless we as individuals, change.
