Last Summer
I greeted summer with open arms
And reveled in the freedom
I dreamed of the adventures coming
To take place in summer’s kingdom
But the winds of warmth were laced with pain
And killed me bittersweet
The sprouts and blooms of life anew
Fell away from beneath my feet
Under bleacher lights and pouring rain
I buried my daydreams deep
I foresaw the approaching loneliness
And let the darkness swallow me
And thus flew by the glory days
And yet not even my tears were gold
We were made of torn up promises
And wishes that grew too old
I watched through windows of warbled glass
And tried my best to smile
But I gave up halfway through and fell-
There was no one around for miles
Autumn came and ignited its flames
And so I burned up our plans and your lies
I don’t dare hope for redemption
But from the ashes at least I could rise

Be happy, not because everything you see is good, but because you can see the good in everything.
