the origin
I am from muddy yards and water gun fights
And the treehouse homes that we make from spirit
I am from the yellow flowers
And the green grass that stains your knees
And the lavender that the bees cling to all summer
I am from christmas at 1:00 and
Birthdays and unbirthdays
And holding secrets close to your heart
I am from the sweet lady next door who bakes you cookies
And flashlights under the blankets of your bed
I am from the games of tag late at night with flashlights
Close by
The drumming of the keys on the piano on
Uninterested piano lessons
The
“Keep up the hard work, don’t quit”
Kinda parents
The
Leave me alone and we’ll be fine”
Kinda sister
The
“What are you doing in school”
“Do you want a second helping”
Kinda grandparents
I am from the walking
To school with good friends
Asking if there was any homework you missed
I am from the quiet afternoons
Where a good book can take you anywhere
On the planet or beyond
This is who I am,
And I am from friends and family
