Faith
People say “I’m sorry for your loss”
Like he belonged to me, and only me
And just for a minute, I stay in that dream
Where he was mine, he belonged to me
I see the wedding dress we chose at thirteen
When he told me he was going to marry me
I see the tux he cut out of the magazine
Just like James Bond, how he always wanted to be
I see the church, with row upon row of everyone we used to know
Smiling up at me, because they always knew this was how it would be
I see the ring we used to admire through the glass
Somehow believing our fantasy would last
This was before he lost his faith
In life, in family, in love, in me
Before I had to choose a black dress
That would be covered in tears by the end of the day
And I finally got to see him in that tux
But that warm smile was taken away
By the cold dead hands of despair
And there was a church
With row upon row of everyone I know
And they were looking at me, but it was with pity
Because no one knew this was how it would end
But what I’ve learned over the years
Is that noone stays
Especially when they have such an urge to flee
The dream never lasts, the fantasies are never fulfilled
I’m sorry for his loss
As sorry as I could ever be
