When trying to sleep
Night's velvet cloak comes o'er me
Solar soldiers nod off, one by one
I am alone.
Slow and deep,
Their rhythmic breathing blows the gears
One gear pushes another, and another
The clock is ticking
Nightguard on the beat...beat...beat...beat
I can't run from time
But I can hide, here, in my shadowed corner.
The lights are out
Little stars extinguish themselves with a haunting hiss
Even the moon, her pale lovely face
Cannot fight the rich cloak of night
The world is black, and
I am alone.
Embers are stirring
The gears are still turning
I can hear creation whirring
The fire alights
Something ignites
And it bites!
I am singed.
Blood boils, courses through my veins
Spurs me onward
Up I go
Caught in midnight's net, I hover
Miles from reality and humanity
Phantom faeries skip about my crown
Shoot past my ears and eyes, evading my senses
They wink at me
Taunt me with wicked smiles
Sweet melodic bells fill my soul
I am aglow with inspiration's fire.
On this night of nights
When I need sleep most
It is fitting, don't you think?
That I should be graced with such beauty
Pure and perfect
And I can have it none?
