The Piano Lesson
you asked me why
my nervous hands on still keys,
shaking,
surprised-
because you asked why.
I said I didn’t know
because I couldn’t explain love
in a sentence
and you just smiled
and said I was something.
something.
a new word.
unfamiliar, yet so close to
nothing.
me.
so my shaking hands played still keys
again
but I forgot to let them shake
finding a movement against your smile
and finding a smile against my movement
finding
something
to explain love.
