cold drops stain a face
as the water dances
a lone twig
fights the current

a reflection
small hands against the surface
my hands
and my laughter

see the sand?
draw a picture
a princess or maybe
just a girl

and her reflection
large hands against the surface
is it-
my hands
and my laughter

listen.
hear the wind?
and the future
not the way I planned
or hoped
or dreamed.
just the way
it is

when cold drops stain a face
as the water dances
and a lone twig
fights the current

Finding a balance between cherishing and letting go of the past has been extremely difficult for me. Who did I used to be? Who am I now? Who do I want to be and who do others want me to be? How do those versions of myself fit together?
