Midnight Telephone Conversations
Sweet as chocolate
The sound of your voice
Rings through my ears
And I am comforted
By the thought
That I am not alone
Though miles away
I know you are there
With me through anything
I close my eyes
And I can see your face
Night after night
Week after week
I heedlessly became dependent
On you
My soul; my heart
Longed for the words which you spoke
A fish without water
I couldn’t breathe at night
Unless I heard your voice
Felt your presence
As we talked
We shared stories
And dreams
We imagined
About being alone
Where time cannot find us
Somewhere by the sea
On the soft sand
It became so real for me
I could feel the wind
On my face and
I would breathe in deeply
Smelling the fresh salt air
Then back to reality
Back to the world
That can be so cruel
And mean
And I pass the hours
Of daylight
Yearning for
You and your
Midnight telephone conversations
