One-Way Street
Beep, beep, your life is a one way street
You’ll crash, burn, wait your turn for the light whose color is
Ever changing
Stop, yield, pedestrians in the crosswalk, construction on the road
Maneuver through this while carrying your own heavy load
There’s traffic, two-way streets, highways and turnpikes
Bridges to cross where souls have walked
All waiting for the LIGHT to turn bright green
No other color red and yellow has the same effect it seems
Take the next exit left, go under twenty-five miles per hour
Put on your parking brake , pay the meter hour by hour
Before the light turns green again make a choice
Do you go the way everyone takes or do you bear your own cross?
Is there a way around the madness
A shortcut to your ultimate destination
Where is a GPS when I navigate through my life’s frustrations?
I have settled on directions
Directions I’ve been given, a world where love is not always free
when given
I follow these instructions but find my own way
Nearly come to a dead end
If only I’d follow these directions I know I’d find my way home
again!
