Finding Me
Falling down the corridor
I try to find the light
The darkness envelopes me
Holding me down
I claw at the blackness
Begging it to set me free
“The warmth and love
The light will bring will
Shatter me,”
It whispers, holding tighter.
“Stay in the blackness and
I will be the friend that never
Leaves,” It begs and promises.
Promises, like so many before
Always broken
But this time it’s by me
I break free of the chains
That bind me to you,
Darkness
The sun glimmers through
A crack in my world
I reach toward it
And wake up
Nothing’s changed
But I know I have challenged
My darkness
And found me
