Nightmares
I cover my ears to try and stop the screaming,
It doesn't work, nothing can ever make it leave me.
I can't close my eyes, these images are haunting,
They're branded into my brain, they stop me from sleeping.
I'm waking up now, a tangled mess of fear,
I'm choking on my tears to hard to scream,
Every night, this process keeps repeating.
And every night, I wish upon a star for sweet dreams.
Strangled by fear, I lay here waiting,
For exhaustion to over come me,
Till I can't keep my eyes open anymore,
I'll stand till I drop to the floor.
Terrified to sleep at night,
I'll apply more make up to hide the rings beneath my eyes,
Turn the music up louder to drown out the screams,
Seems like I'll be this way till the day I die.
