Ode to Dorothy Height
I do not brings tears of sadness,
Instead of joy.
I sit here and celebrate a full life lived and
Toy
With such emotions, because of your devotion to
Women’s rights and civil rights,
There is no ode, worth giving except for the
Ode to Dorothy Height.
See, I could read off a long list of your accomplishments
But that wouldn’t do any justice to your benevolence,
I speak with exuberance and sereneness,
A woman so powerful, that she could never be
powerless.
Her leadership and professionalism, co-existed with her volunteerism
All of the criticisms, made her push towards her dream.
She had her seat at the March of Washington, right next to Dr. King.
I speak of a woman known as the “godmother of the women’s movement”,
Her history is so powerful, years and years she’s spent,
Being president of this and chairwoman of that
There’s no woman that could ever be exact.
If I could have had the pleasure, day or night,
To meet this incredible woman and shed
My Ode to her life,
This woman lived a life so supreme and full of cheers,
A celebration of life that brought our President to tears.
You see as a child, there was no woman I desired to be just like,
But if I had to choose now, of course that woman would be
Yours truly Dorothy Height.
