Despair
As red as an oxygenated bead of blood
It happens while you sit beside your loved one on their death bed
It sounds like the shrill cries of a young boy calling for his mother
Despair

The author's comments:
This poem is about a young boy who has lost his mother in a tragic car accident. This poem was very difficult for me to write and holds a deep meaning to me. My stepmother died in a car accident, and my younger brother had nightmares about it for many months. Through this poem I wanted to ease some of my pain, as well as portray my brother's pain.
