Daddy's military duties
I remember the day you left
I was only five
Maybe six
We woke up early
Had breakfast
Little did I know
You'd be gone by 9:00 am
I remember
Your car pulling out of that driveway
Those tears rolling down my little face
calling for you
begging for you to come back
It wasn't your fault
Those stupid military duties
I knew you'd come back
Some day...
Mom did her best
She made sure we had everything we needed
Somehow made it to all our school events
Made sure we talked to you
Every once in a while
Eventually that someday came
I hugged you
I wished you'd never leave again
That wish was never granted
But it wasn't your fault
Those stupid military duties.

This poem is about my father, He was deployed to North Carolina for six months. Just thought it was something worth writing about.
