Smiling Mask
The words echo through my ears.
Who should I be, who am I, who will I be?
Why do they want me to change?
If I put a smile on they won't see.
Does everyone wear a mask or is that just me?
Masking my smile, my thoughts, my feelings.
The world full of tears. Full of smiles.
What is true?
The brush strokes through my hair,
The makeup covers my face,
The tight clothes go on.
Will they like how I look?
Will they finally like the show I put on?
The sounds of denunciations will never stop.
I changed the sports I play the clothes I wear to fit in with their perfect mind.
Even with this mask I am still flawed.
It is like a sunset, even if it is beautiful it won't last,
The night will come and go but that moment will never be the same.
I hope one day I will appreciate my flaws,
I hope one day the world will appreciate my flaws.

My name is Lana and I am 13 years old. Since I was little I would make stories in my mind but even though I could make stories in my head it felt impossible to write it on paper but over time I practiced. Writing is’t my only hobby though. I've been playing soccer for years and have loved it. I play as a striker. Running as fast as I can ready to shoot the ball into the goal while avoiding the opposite team makes me feel free and like I can be whoever I want. Soccer has continued to be in the top 3 of my favorite things to do since I was three and I’m sure it will be a huge part of who I am throughout the rest of my childhood and hopefully continue to be a part of me when I'm an adult. Designing clothes is also one of my favorite things to do in my free time. Sometimes I’ll take my friends' old clothes and make new pieces of clothing for them. All 3 of these big parts in life have one main thing in common that make them so special to me. Creativity! When I’m doing any of these activities I can show how I feel and that's how I communicate with the world.
