out of the worst of it
i’m stuck with being out of the worst of it.
for years my goal was survival but
survival didn’t make me stronger only
different.
in medicine, scar tissue is a nightmare. it inhibits healing and motion and movement
it causes pain, obstructs bodily functions
distorts the color and shape of your skin
here i am, god.
i am not what they say you made me.
i have grown into mangled tissue that splits at every
scream
in your body’s effort to heal it forges itself into a twisted patchwork
the worst thing they ever told you, girls, is that what doesn’t kill us makes us stronger.
the truth is, the body is the most successful grudge holder.
the truth is, what doesn’t kill us makes us easier to break again.
