Togetherness
We weave our lives together
Our paths intertwine and dance within each other
As with the rest of the world we are one
We are the soil, rich sweet ochre, hickory, umber
We are the tempestuous ocean, insatiable azures, and cobalts
We are the luscious emerald grasses and bittersweet succulents
We are the descendants of our Mother Earth, we are one
Yet I still wonder how it is
That old prejudice, pregiudizio, préjudice, पक्षपात, تعصب
Exists in every dictionary
How is it that this one word can break so many apart?
When we come from the same soil, the same Mother?
I watch so many brothers and sisters fall around me every day
Because the sun smiles at some a little more sweetly
Because some are criticized for opening their hearts, finding their identity
Because some are hated for choosing to worship their god
Yet Hope hangs her umbrella sparingly over me
As I slowly see the sun coming back
As generations come and go
They hold their hands together a little tighter
And take off their tainted glasses
That has blurred their vision so
As they understand each other more
And open their own hearts, minds, and souls
To finally open their own eyes and see
The beautiful colors surrounding them
The rich seas of greens and blues
The delicate hues of purples and pinks
The colorful threads of our lives interconnected
Joined in unity, togetherness
