Mi Pajaro
They say "'Hope' is a thing with feathers"
It "perches in the soul"
But my soul has no branches
I lost my bird long ago
For my bird was not meant to sing
My bird was not meant to fly
I'm supposed to stay in the shadows
NOT be recognized
NOT be appreciated
NOT be considered
I'm supposed to be shunned
I'm supposed to fail
But my bird should never cry
My culture carries to much pride
Be strong
Be brave
But make sure you hide
I tried to ignore them
I tried to fly
But each time I fell
I lost my branches
-One at a time-
I finally listened
And now my bird has left
I live in silence
And like my people
I never rest

What it's like to be a Latinx person living in America. If you can relate... I'm sorry.
