Feelings of a High School Student
I’ve been having a hard time adjusting
To the way time is moving so fast.
It feels like not long ago,
The fear of beginning high school consumed me.
Despite my trepidation, I must accept
It really was long ago.
I’m now a junior
And will graduate next year.
Everyone told me these years wouldn’t be easy
And at times I think they were right.
The way the assignments pile up,
It's hard to sleep at night.
The pressure feels so heavy,
I just want to do well.
“With age, people will change,”
Everyone told me.
Another bell that rang true.
Now I engage in awkward small talk
With people I used to know so well.
High school is nothing like the movies.
All those stars seemed to have more fun,
While honestly I just can’t wait to be done.
Adulthood doesn't scare me much,
I’m excited about my future.
Right now I’m just overwhelmed,
But one thing I can say is,
At least I’m trying.
