Better than a Romeo
I once sought a Romeo,
“A Romeo he’d be,” I claimed,
How gloriously, I thought, he would die for me.
My breath would light aflame his fire, and no one else he’d see,
Because only I would matter along his life’s journey.
In fact, true devotion and a passion like no other,
Would be merely enough to please this ideology.
Him and I would walk the fine line between hatred and desire,
As we’d miss one another, we’d cry, we’d shout, and frankly,
We’d nurture the toxicity,
Of codependency.
“True love would have you yelling from a balcony,”
I declared, so confidently.
How wonderful life would be, I pondered,
If only I found this Romeo I seek.
Simply said, this little girl was looking for a tragedy,
Nowhere near was who she found, in reality.
Beyond her dreams she hadn’t imagined,
How wonderful life would really be,
When the person you begin seeking,
Is one that makes you happy.
The boy who sees the world tainted in positivity,
The one who has you thinking,
“I guess it’s not so bad, humanity”
Overflowing with empathy, he’d see that everyone around him
Would smile and laugh and sing, so joyfully.
In other words,
The boy who makes you want to live forever.
When someone changes your perpsective on life, makes you happy by just being there, and effortlessly stands by you through your struggles, that's when your write them poetry.
