The Fine Line
He makes me laugh
He makes me feel...seen
Noticed
Important
I love to make him smile
His eyes crinkle around the edges
Full of amusement and unspoken thoughtsHe tilts his head down
As if his laugh is a secret
Not to be shared
He's strong, so strong that
Its annoying
He's this immovable rock
Planted to the ground
Solid
He's solid
Reliable
That's something that's new to me
I feel so small compared to him
This short girl up against this tall guy
Who just looks down at me
Like I'm this tiny little thing
We joke around
So much that people just assume we're together
We toss things at eachother
Skittles
Pens
Anything we can find
Until someone gets fed up and blurts out
"When are you gonna ask her out?"
And we split apart
Walk off
Embarrassed and annoyed that people are watching us
Like a reality tv show
Waiting for what'll happen next
"When"
"How"
"Who"
They all ask
But I just shake my head
Don't want to rush into anything
Don't want to push it
We're walking a fine line right now
Up in the air
It's pulled tight
And we're treading carefully across
Swaying from side to side
Praying that we won't lose our balance
Before we make it to the other side
But nobody seems to understand that
Except us.
This is a very new, updated poem of mine, so all these things are still new and the emotions are fresh, I decided to write it on here because I believe that so many teens nowadays have sort of lost hope in real "feelings" and true, trustworthy friendships and relationships that last, I hope that this gives hope to those out there who believe that stuff like just talking through Snapchat is a relationship, and that it doesn't have to be more, and that it shows them that they deserve more and that they deserve someone who makes them feel special and seen, and they shouldn't have to settle for less.
