The Beagle
O’er the brackish emerald waters,
Sailed the single-masted Beagle;
With a magnificent hull and an ochre sail;
Faring a myriad of undulating waves.
The clouds closed in like a blanket of darkness,
Emulous winds blew on like the violent Levante.
The cold waters crashed like boulders at the keel;
It showed no mercy; the Beagle endured.
The vexed ocean engulfed the fractured ship;
A billow emerged to add a finishing touch.
Yet the broken Beagle rose and skimmed through the waves, onward;
For it was uncertain if paradise truly existed.
Finally, a beam of light emanated from the horizon;
It was a sign of daylight, a sign of hope.
The Beagle sailed towards it with a glow of pride,
Ignoring the vindictive waters behind.
~ Sascha V
For some of you, the name "Beagle" for a ship may sound strange. Here's a fun fact — The ship is actually named after Charles Darwin’s ship, the HMS Beagle!
