I Wish
Our lives reflect the art they imitate
We drink up words to simulate
All of those burning desires and to stimulate
Our fatiguing minds that can only be ours if we choose
Are we the generation that will advocate
For those who are silenced and plant seeds that will germinate
Into something we can take pride in
We are too hopeful for apostasy but too cynical to congregate
I am so sick of carrying the weight of other’s mistakes
He’s going 90 in a 45 so I take down his license plate
In case he shows up on the eight o’clock news.
