Bold Dimness
it’s ticking to the next day,
my LEDs flicker in crude colors,
embodying the light of the party
—i live through it
because the only smell i deserve is the musty book one.
i don't like taking my headphones off
the silence is loud,
my heartbeat louder
the walls are too real
the roof—too slanted
it’s the next day
but no time can put my mind at ease
it’s the lights spurring it on
—it’s the car’s engine in the distance
the moon’s promising presence
i want consistency like the moon’s
i want to shine my dim light on darkness
to be the comfort to lonely souls
to show my face
—even when all yearn to see the brighter one instead.

I wrote this piece late at night, my fingers flying across the keyboard as my LEDs glared down upon me, as a car revved far in the night, as my bed winked in vain at me, and as my mind raced to beat time.
