the future falls into the fire
we see older generations demean problems they made,
making the fate of the world about financial responsibility,
ignoring children growing up with an unsettling new reality.
the cameras scan the smog,
concealing skyscrapers and bustling cars,
the earth cries out for help,
and we ignored her call.
the tv flickers with fires,
the ashes heavy with pain,
the firetrucks incapacitated,
the starting pistol has been fired,
destruction wins the race,
burning life in its wake,
leaving homes in the dust,
racing past the finish line,
sweat drips into pools,
small feet pound the concrete,
lungs rasping for breath,
running from the blaze.
