Deadline
Questions, answers never come,
Again and again, I ask myself,
Why do I ask the same things day after day?
Something is always due,
Rushing, rushing, rushing
Ignore the messy choices, the rushed decisions
Never getting the chance to relax before the next step.
School.
Are my grades up high enough?
Enough to reach the glass ceiling that I just want to break but can’t?
Be unique, inspiring, set yourself apart,
No college wants a follower.
They want a leader.
Don’t get a B, B isn’t for Beautiful
Or Blissful
Or Beaming
It’s second place next to A.
Why would you want second place?
All your friends want to go to Ivy Leagues,
Go with them.
Friends.
Do they like me?
Change, reform, fit into the group
Don’t talk too much, listen,
They are all most likely talking about me
This might be an overreaction.
But what if it isn’t?
Maybe they don’t like your personality.
Personality.
Too productive, let loose
You don’t “go with the flow” like the rest of the world
Am I too talkative? It makes me annoying, doesn’t it?
I’m a burden on others, maybe I shouldn’t go out.
Don’t be a burden.
Don't Socialize,
But get a life.
Maybe I would be liked if I looked nice.
Appearance.
You need more clothes.
You can’t be looking like you have no social life,
But that’s shallow, right?
Wait, ew, no, you cannot wear that,
You don’t want to be seen as an E-girl.
Shallow, entitled, selfish, but,
You need to fit in.
Eyeliner, Mascara, shadow, is it too much?
You're not in a 24-hour beauty show,
You wouldn’t have to put on so much if your skin was clear.
Drinking more water helps to clear the skin, right?
But, so does the food you eat.
Food.
Take one more? Or put one back?
No. Less.
Have you exercised today?
Didn’t you bake last week?
Maybe you're baking too much.
Less.
Put one back, it’s not needed.
Less.
Less time remaining until yet another deadline,
One step after another, stop overthinking
But I have to.
You need to be well-rounded with after-school activities.
Leadership is key, it looks good on your resume,
But let’s face it, you need better grades.
Am I liked?
Do my clothes look trendy?
I have to be quieter.
Don’t shout, change my laugh.
I sound like an idiot.
I just wish I didn’t overthink all the time.

I wrote about what more teenagers think on a daily basis. With everyone at home, people's mental health has been going down at drastic levels, and I personally have found myself, like others, overthinking even more than I did already. This poem is the train of thought that we go through every night with nothing else to think about.
