afterschool playlist
i make my music louder over the hum of the school bus
shoes chirping on the plastic, wet from rain
i lean forward until my head hits sticky plastic cushions
sweat marked
making a triangle
between my legs
and the sweatshirt swallowing me whole
curtains of dampened hair between me and the outside world
as i wait for the mist to steady through windows
too broken to fully close
freckled with leftover dew
and for doors to squeakthunk open
as i longed
for a release
how could i have known
says the me
a lifetime later
