To Do Lists
I pull out my pen and the day has begun
Scribbling down all the things to get done
Stick to the schedule- there no room for fun
I can’t hang out,
I have errands to run!
I think back to summer, and what did I do?
What are the memories I often run to?
I try to remember, but all that comes out
Are self-disciplined chores and running about.
To do lists- so practical,
To do lists- how responsible.
But will I remember 20 years down
Picking up groceries up and down town?
Or will I think back to
living spontaneously-
Taking time for people from diapers to dentures
And actively dancing through life’s great adventures
