Afraid
My fears seldom drift away,
they cling to my conscience,
I try to release, to let go, but they stay,
Heavily weighing on me
forcing me to isolate,
to distance myself from others
Missing opportunities,
afraid to speak up and say what I feel
Afraid to join in,
I don’t know the people around me,
I weep, I suffer in silence
Always some aspect of torture
Have to hide in the shadows,
leave the tears covered behind,
No one knows,
I feel like an outsider,
insecure,
invisible,
afraid. . .

I wrote this at the beginning of the school year, when I didn't feel like I belonged.
