I've Overcome
I think I’ve finally won
So I’ll lay down for a while
It’s nice to see the sunset when you used to ignore it
It’s nice to see my mother’s smiling mouth when I used to cause the worried wrinkles surrounding it
And it’s nice to feel something when you used to be numb
I think I understand I'm worth it now
I realize I’ve always been
I will be kinder to myself, I hope
I think I deserve it now
I just think I forgot for a while who I was
And I think I realized I’m no longer who I used to be
I’m still a little shaky
But I’ll get a drink and I’ll be okay
I know I’ll be okay
I clean myself up because I was a fire before
And I was an earthquake that never ended
But the tremors have stopped, the land has settled
And the fire has ceased
I laugh at jokes because I used to frown all the time
And I think I’m gonna lay down for a long time
Because I know I’ve won
I’ll be okay, I will

I wasn't expecting this poem to turn out the way it did, but when I sit down to write everything that comes out usually feels very personal and raw to me, just like this piece.
