A Room Full of Strangers
A room full of strangers
Are bounded by choice
The silence defines us
We wait for a voice
And the man right beside me
His shoulder sink down
From the weight of his stories
That haven’t been found
And the girl at the table
Her eyes carry bags
From the mistakes that still follow
that cause her to sag
A room full of strangers
Yet really alike
The bell starts to ring
And I awake from the night.

This poem was inspired by my experience working in a rehab center and meeting all the different people working hard to get their lives back together.
