Campfire
Being in love is like sitting a campfire,
Slowly the flames get larger,
Filling the campsite with light
As you feed it more and more.
Gaining strength and power
It fills your entire body with warmth.
Some get too close
They get addicted to the heat
And need more
They stand so close to the colorful flames,
It starts to burn.
Forcing you to run home,
Screaming in pain,
Tears running down your face.
With scars that’ll take months
Or might never heal.
Others fall asleep,
On the hard forest floor
As the flames dies down.
Slowly making you colder.
Until you are forced to retreat,
To your cars and drive your separate ways.
But some of us are lucky
They stay up all night,
Telling secrets and stories.
The fire keeping their chatter going
Throughout the night,
Staring at the stars.
Eventually the sun comes up
Keeping their love warm forever.
Every love is like a campfire,
It’s always warm in the beginning
Ending with burns or the cold.
But if we are lucky it will end with
The warmth of the sun
To keep our love strong.
