Musical Taste Is Acquired, Not Passed Down
Christian music haunts my earlobes almost everyday
It bellows in our car on long road trips
Creaks through the inner sanctum of my bedroom walls
I deeply loathe it, yet can’t escape its presence
For to renounce the genre as utter garbage
Would be like pledging my soul to Satan
Guess I need to pack my bags, gather my belongings
‘Cause apparently, disliking Jesus’ tunes is the golden ticket to Hell
And my parents listen to the genre almost daily
WITHOUT HEADPHONES!
But I dare not complain, otherwise I’ll risk another lecture
About how they’ve apparently failed me, ‘cause I don’t share their musical tastes
I’m sorry that I don’t gravitate
To the melodic hums of second-hand gospel
And instead, I’m drawn towards the screeches and bellows
Of the ever-so-therapeutic Metal genre varieties
I wish nothing more than to jam out and enjoy music together
But alas our musical tastes are as distant as the North Pole is from the South
Until the world in which we populate is brought closer, like a crushed can
You sway to your music, and I’ll head bang to mine
