child of the sea
i am a child of the sea.
my throat is filling with saltwater,
i don’t know why this weighs me down so.
in the night when i become a shadow among them,
all i want is a lighthouse to lead me home.
there are barnacles on my arms, scattered like freckles,
but by now i’ve already forgotten what they mean.
i walk tracing circles in the dirt with my toes,
the dance flows through my body,
it knows it’s origins even if i do not.
or at least that is true until i stop.
the dance is not over, but for me it is.
i know that somewhere there is a lighthouse,
covered in paint-chipped red and white,
standing on top of the rocks,
with a hazy yellow light shining into the emptiness,
looking for me.
and i will find it.
