Wonderland
Falling flakes of white fly
Down from the sky,
Dancing gracefully to the melody of the stream
Before landing on the soft, green sprouts
Where preparations for winter
Have already begun.
Frost congregates on the cracked soil
Blocking the warmth of the sun
From the florets who strive
To peak their head one last time
Before taking shelter underground.
An everlasting bitterness grows,
Its tenacious glacial breath
Beckons the last of summer’s offspring
To fall prisoner to their inevitable demise,
Waiting for the frostbitten south
To migrate south once again.
