Where Im From
I'm from the sunshine state,
where we played and explored mountains,
where we didn't have a care in the world.
I'm from addictions that ripped a family apart,
from interventions that I couldn't attend,
from sad helpless days.
I'm from stories that didn't make sense,
from the love of his life...
to lying to her face.
I'm from moving from place to place,
from wayward brothers to forgotten fothers,
from comforting relatives.
From just letting it go,
from moving on,
from replacing him.
I'm from brand new opportunities,
from rich neighborhoods,
to gated communities.
I'm from the American dream,
where you can be yourself,
but still, have to hide.
I'm from trying to make people happy,
from trying my best,
from it all blowing back in my face.
I'm from trying to raise three kids,
from trying to protect them,
protect them from becoming him.
I'm from curiosity,
from rereading his love letter,
from not understanding why.
I'm from hope-filled futures,
from being someone better,
Not only for me, but for my family.
I'm from the sunshine state,
played and explored mountains,
where we didn't have a care in the world.
