My Dearest Friend, Where Have You Gone?
My dearest friend
Where have you gone?
It seems like it was only yesterday when you loved me
I search desperately, aimlessly for you
As Demeter did for her abducted daughter
all to no avail
Sweet memories of our time together
Waste away in the depths of my mind
I long for the old-you, but I cannot find her
My dearest friend, do you long for me too?
If so, I’m right here.

My name is Lauren Kim and I'm a high school student. This poem is about a beloved friend of mine whom I have known since pre-school. Despite having moved to different schools for high school, we made to sure to keep in touch. It was going well until last year when I suddenly lost all communication with her. When I met her in person again, I noticed that she had completely changed. She was cold and indifferent to me and I didn't know why. I kept trying to regain the level of closeness we had before and renew our friendship, but she kept pushing me away. This poem can be interpreted as a message to her from me saying that I miss her and that I'll always be ready to accept her friendship.
