Anxiety
You knock all the
wind out of
me again, just like
i remembered.
You have a delicate fabric that could
tear with
a touch
my thoughts begin rushing and
body begins numbing
eyes burning
sirens wailing
colors catch my racing
pulse—the only reminder of
being alive.
Heartbeat in
sync with
dizzy azure and
crimson
i forget the meaning of air as the
thick velcro straps my head
down on the bed and it
tightens around
the rest of my
frosted bones
afraid of my
inability to control
while they tell me
hold on we’re almost there, almost
like the rain owes me an apology because
let me tell you
i am afraid
to wear ashes like
perfume

In 9th grade, I was sent to the emergency room for having a severe panic attack and writing this poem was a way for me to put my experience into words. I write because I want to help other people understand that they are never alone in what they feel.
