Time is Running Out
As I look in the mirror, I notice how different I look compared to society’s ideal girl.
The makeup that covers my face, the darkness of my clothes scare off society.
The image girls have to live up to make me want to hurl.
Being different sometimes gives me anxiety.
The scars on my wrist stare back at me and encourage me to make a change.
Surely the image of society frowns upon the way I am.
People in the halls at school must think I am strange.
Girls with heels and skirts telling me to scram.
So I’ve decided to take no more at lunch I stand on a table.
I scream to draw the attention of all eyes.
As they look at me expectantly I feel unstable.
I remember my purpose to answer unanswered cries of those who are different but live a lie.
I say “don't wait, check the date!
Make a change and be different before it’s too late!”
My fellow students look at me in awe and shock.
I hastily look at the clock waiting for someone to talk.
Then the unexpected happens and they start to applaud.
I say “Do not listen to society, for everyone is flawed!”
. The school starts to cheer and I smile knowing that I stood up for what I believed.
Society has influenced people enough, I am relieved.
So to whomever is reading this now make a change and accept each other!

What inspired me to write this was the way society tells us how to look or act. People all want to be the same anymore but being different is important.
