The City Told Me
I ascended my apartment building
And burst out onto the streets of this city
Feeling the people fall behind my stride
I walked past the girls
With checkered shoes and shocking pink lips
Past the Laren Garage
Composed of mechanical
'Clanks' and 'Plunks'
I could hear someone
A man
Probably named Larry or Bob
Making a confirmation
[Or Maybe]
Asking a question
Too afraid to sound
Like he didn't know the answer
I didn't care then
I didn't notice
But I will tell you this
As I continued to walk
I allowed the vortex of the city walls
To swallow me whole
And when they spat me back out
I realized,
I didn't know the answer either.
