Alone with the Devil

Saunter away, she always will
swinging her hips, red heels
away from you, and the sweet whiskey
and the bruises.
Though, she can’t
even though she stopped being in love
the instant your eyes shone drunk
but could not leave.
No, no, she will not go
as long as the wooden door
stays splintered and spattered scarlet
and the bread on the table is warm.
Don’t be expecting much more
than this, but
should mercy be at your hands
at that very moment
you will be alone with the devil
and your own two eyes
forever
and that is all.
