Villianelle
As freedom floats away
my days of ease slip far behind.
I fall once again into order today.
I try to daydream of basking in a sun’s ray,
but there is not enough spare room in my mind
as freedom floats away.
I miss the luscious green grass in which I would lay
which seems so far from the current daily grind.
I fall once again into order today.
I wish I could relax once more, but it is not yet the right day.
It is far from the day when I can truly unwind
as freedom floats away.
Someday those carefree times will come back, I pray,
after my struggle, deep in my mountain they will be mined.
I fall once again into order today.
I knew the summer could not stay.
It was a predetermined fate; a contract I signed.
As freedom floats away,
I fall once again into order today.
