If Truth was our Native Language
If truth was our native language
Wouldn’t the world be rid of anguish?
If no one had need to bite their tongue
Every word spoken, every song sung
If politicians were truthful and honestly cared
Would we have less poverty, less death, less warfare?
Sure, sometimes the truth really hurts
But in the long run, think which would be worse
False hope quietly suffocating and killing you slowly
Or the truth delivering a fate of momentarily lonely
Now that’s a world I’d sure like to see
But even that sentence drips dishonesty
The only thing sweeter than a lover’s first kiss
Is the deafening silence of ignorant bliss
