Afraid

Because I'm uncomfortable revealing how I feel;
Because I hate the way we make it seem like a big deal;

Because I'm scared to death of what the rest will think;
Because I'm terrified they'll say, "That really stinks.";

Because I want the praise that I don't think I'll find;
Because I start to think of what they're thinking in their minds;

Because I hate the ridicule I think they'll throw at me;
Because I'll be ashamed if mine is only worth a "D";

Because I'll be embarassed if the others are superior;
Because I'm petrified that mine will be inferior;

Because I feel so awkward when I read in front of a crowd;
I'm going to be afraid to read this poem out loud.
